Lesson Focus

  • Helping younger kids understand how to efficiently use their strength to clear with the correct movements

Warm Up (10 mins)

Run 2 laps back and forth from one wall to the other wall.

Relay Race

  • Karaoke 1x
  • Side Shuffle and jump 1x
  • Lunges with side twist 1x
  • Forward shuffle and backward shuffle 1x
  • Sprints 1x
  • High Knees 1x
  • Butt Kickers 1x

Notes

  • Warm up without rackets
  • Increases heart rate and blood flow

Water Break (5 mins)

Forehand Clear Practice (20 mins)

  • Place a marker 3 big steps away from net or a distance relevant to the level of the group
  • Students try hit the shuttle high and hard in the air
  • Students hit the shuttle as far and high as they can
  • This game can be played in teams, two vs two on half court. Students take turn to hit the overhead clear and score points as a team

Notes:

  • Concentrate on preparation/ ready position
  • High contact point
  • Scissor jump (* for students can hit more consistently)

Over Head Drop Shot (20 mins)

  • Group of 3. Player 1 throws high for player 2 to hit a forehand drop shot with rotation. Player 3 on other side of the net catch the bird and throw it back to player 1. Rotate position after 10 shuttles.
  • Position of the thrower should be beside the hitter
  • Students try hit the shuttle around 11 o’clock position. Hit the bird light so that bird will drop near the service line of the opposite court

Notes:

  • Position and angle of contact
  • Throwing motion, finished with a push
  • Intercepting shuttle at the highest point
  • Coaches can help to feed if students are unable to feed for drop shot

Clean Up and Break (5 mins)

Games (20 mins)

  • Singles and doubles with coaches on side coaching students on scoring and rules. Or
  • Plat around the world. Coaches vs students. Students can drop, coaches lift

Cool Down Stretch (5 mins)

  • Calves
  • Quads
  • Glutes
  • Hamstrings
  • Groin

Notes:

  • Review what technique learned today
  • Talk about what we went well today and what didn’t
  • Ask for the student’s feedback on the drills and the games
  • Socialize with them
