  • Intermediate level age between 9 – 15
  • Incorporate basic techniques into multi-shot drills involving movements
  • Develop basic game knowledge

Lesson Focus

  • Proper movement to the rear court, then moving forward to the front court.
  • Continue practice on smash technique
  • Practice on smashing and follow up
  • Games – apply skills into game

Warm Up (15 mins)

  • 3 sets of the following:
  • Jumping jacks x 20
  • High Knees x 20
  • 10 squat jumps
  • Running forward to the end of the gym and backward back to the starting point x 3 x 2 x 1

Footwork Drill: Moving to rear court then to front court with racquet (15 min)

  • Group of two on a half court
  • Student holding a racket and standing on center court
  • First, move to the right rear court corner and simulate a smash
  • Then, move forward to the front court simulate a follow up forehand net kill
  • After that, move diagonally to the left back corner simulate a smash
  • Then, move straight to the front court simulate a follow up backhand net kill
  • Continue drill for 1 min. Then switch to another student
  • 5 sets per students

Notes:

  • Student can start slow then gradually increase the speed
  • Pay attention to the forehand and Notes:backhand net kill
  • After smash on the back court, students need to recover body balance and get ready to move forward

5 min break

Smash and Kill drills (20 mins)

  • Group of 3
  • Two feeders on the opposite court
  • One feeder serves high to both side of the back alternately.
  • One feeder follows the direction of the server, toss shuttle to the net for worker to net kill
  • Worker stands from the center of the court, move to the back to smash, then follow up with a forehand net kill
  • Each feeders take 12 shuttles (total 24 shuttles)
  • Switch role after 24 shuttles
  • 5 sets for each player

Notes:

  • Students must moves behind the shuttle and smash in front of them
  • Smash with scissor kick, prepare to move forward
  • After smashed, hold up racket right away
  • Feeder for the net kill can feed the shuttle high and further in, give worker enough time to execute net kill
  • Coaches help feed if feeder unable to serve high to both corner consistently

5 min break

Games – singles and Doubles (30 mins)

  • Coaches to play games with players for doubles
  • Guide players on positioning during rally
  • Coaches help to keep the rally going

Notes:

  • Help students understand when to split side to side (defensive) and front and back (offensive)
  • Make players move around, let them apply what they have learned from the lessons

Cool Down Stretches (5 mins)

  • Calves
  • Quads
  • Glutes
  • Hamstrings
  • Groin
