Group:
- Beginner
- 12 students – 8 to 14 years old
- Understand how to clear, drop, smash, net shots, lift but need lot of refining of techniques
- Develop basic game knowledge
Lesson Focus:
- Focus on clear and drop shot while combining footwork
- Games – apply clear skills into game scenarios
Warm Up (10 mins)
- Running forward to one wall and back to the starting point 3x
- Side shuffle
- Shuffle shuffle jump
- Crossovers
- High knees/butt kicks
- Lunges
- Sprinting
Notes:
- Warmup without rackets
- Increases heart rate and blood flow
Footwork – 4 corners (15 mins)
- Pairs on a full court
- One pointer, one worker
- Worker starts in the middle and splits to the direction of the pointer
- Pointer points to one the four corners when the worker has returned to the centre
- 20 x 3 sets
Notes:
- Students must do scissor kick when shadow clear at the rear court
- Students must move to the back to lines of the rear court
- Proper footwork and shadow swing is a big focus of this drill
- Coaches should check the footwork, drip, and swing of students
Cleanup & Break (5 mins)
The final class of the season is upon us, and next week we’ll have our Year-End Tournament. Coaches may opt for singles or doubles matches, or perhaps introduce some entertaining badminton games.
