Lesson Focus

  • Helping younger kids understand how to efficiently use their strength to clear with the correct movements

Warm Up (10 mins)

Run 3 laps back and forth from one wall to the other wall.

Relay Race

  • Karaoke 1x
  • Lunges with side twist 1x
  • Ankle and wrist twists 1x
  • Sprints 1x
  • High Knees 1x
  • Butt Kickers 1x
  • Side Shuffles 1x

Notes

  • Warm up without rackets
  • Increases heart rate and blood flow

Water Break (5 mins)

Throwing Game With Scissor Jump (20 mins)

  • Students working in pairs facing each other on the length of the court
  • One student using chasses steps move to the back of the court and throw the shuttle forward for distance using scissor jump
  • The partner catch it or pick up the shuttle perform the same movement

Notess

  • Concentrate on:
    • Sight on position
    • Full shoulder turn
    • High point of throwing

Forehand Clear Practice (20 mins)

  • Place a marker 5 big steps away from the net or a distance relevant to the level of the group
  • Students try hit the shuttle high and hard in the air
  • If the shuttle falls short of the marker, the other player wins a point
  • This game can be played in teams, two vs two on half a court. Students take turn to hit the overhead clear and score points as a team

Notes

  • Progression – Players working pairs playing rallies. How many overhead clear can they make without making a mistake

Clean up and break (5 mins)

Forehand Clear Game (10 mins)

  • Students play half court single
  • The rally start with high service follow by two clears
  • Students are then free to play any shots
  • The game is score and the player can rotate on to the court

Games (15 mins)

  • Singles and doubles with coach on site coaching students on scoring and rules

Cool Down Stretch (5 mins)

  • Calves
  • Quads
  • Glutes
  • Hamstrings
  • Groin

Notes

  • Review what technique learned today
  • Talk about what went well today and what didn’t
  • Ask for the student’s feedback on the drills and the games
  • Socialize with them
